1st Iraqi Brigade, 1st Iraqi Division, Military Transition Team : These galleries are a tribute to my Army and Marine brothers in arms that served on the 1st Brigade, 1st Iraqi Division Military Transition Team advisory group. It was an honor to serve with each and everyone of you. July 2005 to July 2006 (and several months on either side in train-up). The 1st Iraqi Brigade was actually the first Iraqi Brigade stood up in the new Iraqi Army. As such, it was one of the most seasoned fighting unit and was considered the Quick Reaction Brigade for the Iraqi Army. Because of that, the Brigade HQ was based in Rustamiyah (Baghdad) but the three Battalions (When we arrived) were scattered from East Ramadi to Hit to way up in Rawah. It took considerable time to get the Battalions consolidated back together so the unit could start working together as a Brigade. From then on out...the Brigade deployed as a unit to wherever the action was hottest. The 1st Brigade was the core Iraqi unit that jumped all the way from Baghdad up to the Syrian Border to the Al-Qaim region and participated in Operation Steel Curtain with the Marines. This operation lasted from October 05 through to about Feb/Mar 06 where it was redeployed to Baghdad to refit and then sent once again into the thick of Al Anbar back to East Ramadi where the Brigade performed extremely well.
